Big Screen, Big Sky, Big Hit

The arrival of our 42-inch LCD HD XYZ PTF JGT TV (maybe I have too many acronyms in there) was the day we had it all when it came to watching television. For Bob, watching football on a screen THAT big with a picture THAT sharp with the usual snacks and nobody between him and the TV was as good as it could possibly be.

Sunday changed that.

We were wandering around Deck 15 on the Norwegian Epic when I, of all people, stumbled across an NFL game on the big screen at the back of the ship. This screen is as big as a house — well, our house — and it was stunning to see it against the backdrop of the evening sky above the Caribbean Sea.

For him, it was more than that. Once I had dragged him away from the rock-climbing wall (he was just a spectator there, too) and alerted him about the game on a big (25-foot) screen, he was long gone as they say in football. Even I could understand why.

Think about this…

He’s sitting in a chaise lounge. It feels like he’s on the 50-yard line. The TV screen is commanding not just because of its size and clarity, but also its contrast against the dark sky. A waiter comes by to see if he needs a drink.

The teams and the score are irrelevant, although apparently it’s an entertaining game. Seattle and Arizona, I think. It’s showing on the Epic’s other giant screen, although this is the better one.

There was a pool between Bob and the screen. If anybody walks between him and the screen, not that they could, either he’d never notice or they’d be under water. If only I could figure out how to avoid getting between him and that 42-incher.

I also have to figure out how to get him off this ship!
