Canada’s most accomplished and most credible cruise writer,
our colleague Phil Reimer, has written a particularly compelling column for his readers this weekend. He’s making a first-hand comparison between the much-ballyhooed Epic (above) from Norwegian Cruise Lines, and the somewhat-forgotten Oasis of the Seas (below), known around the world as Royal Caribbean’s and the biggest cruise ship in the universe.
As he tells readers in 11 newspapers across the country, and on his website (portsandbows.com), Reimer decided to play the apples-to-apples game.
“I decided to do a cost-comparison,” he writes. “I selected one date in the fall and one in the New Year.”
Here’s the way it looked…
November 27 departure:
Epic — Inside stateroom $659,
Balcony $949, Solo cabins $849
Oasis — Inside $969, Balcony $1,219 (no solo cabins)
January 22 departure:
Epic — Inside $759, Balcony $1,049 Solo $909
Oasis — Inside $999, Balcony $1,149
The Epic is the first new ship with staterooms built specifically for singles, or solos. Pricing was at time of writing and subject to change.
So, where would you spend your cruise dollars?
