This Place to 'Getaway' for the Super Bowl is a Misnomer for One Football Fan

The football fan in our family is not a fan of parties. Football parties, that is. To him, tail gate is what people do when they drive too close to the car in front on the freeway. Shouting and screaming and gyrating for your favorite team to win the championship is, well, not him.

GetawaySilence is golden on Super Bowl Sunday.

So when the new Norwegian Getaway admits 4,000 fans on the ship in New York to watch the game, on the first Sunday in February, he won't be there. He'll be watching somewhere else, probably alone, probably in silence. Twenty of his closest friends, if he has that many, may be whooping and drinking it up but they'll be doing it without him.

Meanwhile, back at the Getaway…

Norwegian's plan is to turn the ship into a floating Bud Light commercial on SBS.

Presumably, that means there will be more beer than Clydesdales, and football fans and non-football fans alike will be in full celebration mode. To that end, they will apparently be able to crash in the nearest (or assigned) stateroom when the day is done, and disembark the next morning, hangover and all.

It goes without saying that on Norwegian's newest ship, which by then will be in service for less than a month, the game will be on the big screen.

Now, if they really wanted to get creative, Norwegian would raise the anchor and cruise far enough off shore to be outside the casino tolerance…and take bets on the game.

They might even get "him" on board.
