Mais Oui…a New Title at Sea!

Titles don’t really mean much, on cruise ships or on land. What matters is performance that is often measured against the title. And for people always looking for something a little unusual, what matters is an unusual title.

Like “Head Chef de Rang.”

If this isn’t a new title at sea, it’s at least new to us, and we have been on just a few cruise ships. It’s French, of course, and there doesn’t seem to be literal translation for “rang” but a gifted “jacques-of-all-trades” would probably cover the job description.

Here’s how Sinisa Galesic (left) defined what’s expected of him on the Celebrity Eclipse, where he is Head Chef de Rang in the flagship restaurant Murano:

“I jump to (attention) when needed. This is a private setting, and I do whatever is necessary. Pour the wine, cook at the table, even sing a little. The guests will feel I’m around.”
