NCL Ships (Yawn!) on the Move

Maybe we’re atypical, as cruisers go. When it comes to ships, we’re pretty much as happy to be on one as another. Almost any ship will do, because all of them are attractive. They’re like beautiful women. Which is the most beautiful. Some are bigger, some are beautiful on top…maybe we better not go any further down that road.

To us, being on any cruise ship can be better than being at home.

At home, we don’t have an ocean view. We don’t have a pool, or waterslides, or a casino, or a spa, or a bartender. At home, only we cook and serve the meals, wash the dishes, do the laundry, sing and dance (maybe not). Nobody rocks us to sleep like a ship does.

So here’s the point: When a cruise line shuffles its deck of ships from one port to another, from one itinerary to another, from one ocean to another, we don’t lie awake at night wondering what’s going on.

This week, Norwegian announced some upcoming ship changes.

The Star, in Alaska this summer, will be in New York next summer. The Jewel, sailing out of New York City throughout 2011, will leave to join the Pearl in Alaska in 2012. The Dawn will continue its Boston-to-Bermuda runs but the Gem (above), this year sailing from New York to Bermuda, is apparently homeless in 2012.

Ship ahoy…what’s to become of the Gem?

We know this is all very exciting to cruisers who have their favorite ships and favorite places. It’s just not headline news in our household, where the destination and the people are at least as important as what ship takes us there.

Besides, what if we get caught walking out of a restaurant without paying the bill?
