Isn’t it something the way cruise lines are copy cats? Holland America goes to circumnavigate Australia, so Cunard goes to circumnavigate Australia. It happens all the time.
HAL’s Volendam sails this week on a 34-day sold out cruise around Australia. Simultaneously, Cunard announces that it’s going to around Down Under (does that sound right) in 2012.
However, Cunard has a twist…you could call it one-upmanship if you like.
Queen Mary 2 will call at eight Australian ports including Sydney, Fremantle, Adelaide and the Whitsundays, as well as maiden visits to Cairns (Yorkey’s Knob), Darwin, Melbourne and Brisbane. Her circumnavigation will also include a call at Bali.
Australians (or visitors) will have three circumnavigation voyage options: (1) from Fremantle, 20 nights, leaving February 8, (2) from Adelaide, 21 nights, leaving February 11, and (3) from Sydney, 22 nights, leaving on Valentine’s Day 2012. Because the ship’s is coming from Cape Town to Sydney via Fremantle and Adelaide, it will stop twice at those tree ports.
Who’s next? Imitation is, after all, the greatest form of flattery.
That’s it…we’re done.
