Ashes to Ashes Even on Water

At sea on the Celebrity Millennium — While it has rapidly become clear that Iceland’s volcanic ash has far-reaching effects worldwide, who would imagine how it could muddy the waters for cruise ships everywhere, including the Millennium?
As the ship churns through the Caribbean Sea towards its first port, Cartegena, Colombia, it’s without 90 overseas passengers landlocked by canceled flights at home, and with carriers such as British Airways grounded until Monday at the earliest it’s unlikely many of them will catch up with this Panama Canal cruise. This, of course, is not an issue unique to Celebrity as countless cruise ships are being impacted by the volcano.
Celebrity’s agents will know how many passengers are going to miss the Canal after arrival in Colombia today, because some will catch up with the ship in Cartegena, while others have already re-booked for a replacement cruise. Customer reps tried to accommodate travelers who notified the cruise line at least a day before sailing, but anybody who didn’t call was simply considered a no-show.
The ship leaves Colombia tonight for the Canal.
That’s it, we’re done.
