Ever-Changing World of Cruise Deals

Cruise prices are fluid, as they should be, because where would ships be without water? Okay, bad joke. As occupancy changes, cruise lines shift the pricing accordingly. Sometimes, it happens within minutes. As an example, here are two “good deals” we came across this week, deals that changed from previous offers. Both included air fare.

For a bottom price of $1,299, you could fly from New York to Egypt and spend a week on the Nile River, plus one day in Cairo and two in the air — and the deal includes flights from Cairo to Luxor and back, 21 meals (but who’s counting?), transfers and government taxes. Not included are excursions that would enable you to see, presumably, the Pyramids. By the time we checked on it, $1,299 had become $1,399 for “first-class”, but for an extra $400 you get the “deluxe” treatment — who said 22 meals?

The catch is it’s two and three weeks before Christmas, but when you think about all that’s included, it’s attractive if seeing the Pyramids and Egypt is on your bucket list. It’s called the Grand Nile Cruise, from Sunnyland Tours, which has 400 cruise boats.

And for $1,499, you can fly from one of five U.S. cities to Barcelona, board the Celebrity Constellation and stop at five Mediterranean ports (Nice, Genoa, Florence, Rome and Naples). Besides air fare, it includes all pier transfers and between $150 and $250 on-board cabin credit. It’s in October, but this catch is that the sale ends tonight.

However, last week, the sale ended on Friday. Clearly it didn’t sell out — hence the extension — and if it doesn’t sell out today…as we used to tell our daughter when she was the little girl looking for wildlife from the back seat, “Keep watching!”

This one came to us from Travelzoo.

That’s it, we’re done.
