Two camera-bug specials today…

When the Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Elizabeth 2 were side-by-side in the Atlantic Ocean in August 2008 during the QE2’s final voyage, a couple from South Africa were taking pictures when their camera slipped and disappeared into the sea.

Fifteen months later, in January 2010, a fisherman trawling the ocean floor found the camera in his fishing net. The camera was toast but the memory card and photos were intact.

After looking at the photos (none x-rated), the fisherman spotted the QE2 in the background on one, with a woman standing in the foreground on the deck of another, unidentified ship. The fisherman contacted the BBC, a correspondent determined the passengers unidentified ship was the Queen Mary 2, and Cunard reunited the couple with their photos!

And shutterbug owners from Aruba have their underwater video camera back after it floated ashore in Key West, Florida, six months after they lost it while scuba diving in Aruba waters. The Florida man who found it went to great lengths to track them down, before Cruise Critic came to the rescue.

The funniest part of the story is that the camera was first found by a sea turtle, who played with it under water, activated the “on” switch and was photographed in the process.

It can now be seen on YouTube.
