You may have heard about the German “love boat” called the Deutschland that had an engine-room fire on the weekend, at a Norwegian port. All 364 passengers and 243 crew were evacuated without injury. It is the latest in a series of misfortunes for Peter Deilmann Cruises, which earlier this year saw its river-cruise operations shut down by bankruptcy proceedings.
Now comes the spooky part, as reported by “cruiseaholic” John Honeywell. Last summer, the ship took part in a joint simulated “fire in the crew area” in Wales.
If that’s not ironic enough, how about this one? When the Air France Concorde crashed on take-off leaving Paris a decade ago, it was a charter carrying 100 passengers to New York…to board the Deutschland.
That’s it…we’re done.
