Key Upgrades for Sapphire Princess

It’s finally happened. All 16 Princess ships have piazza and pizza, and it’s a good thing the cruise line has competent proof readers.

The Sapphire Princess is now out of dry-dock and on a Hawaiian vacation. It has a new Piazza Atrium, and it also has Alfredo’s Pizzeria. Anybody who has ever been on a Princess ship knows how important (aka, delicious) the pizza is.

This was the final refurbishment of the Princess fleet and, yes, there was more to it than piazza and pizza. The Sapphire Princess also has a giant screen for watching movies under the stars…a modern-day drive-in theater on water. It has a place called The Sanctuary, an oasis of serenity for adult passengers wishing to escape the chaos of pools and pubs.

And it has the usual cosmetic improvements — carpets, tiles, flat-screen TVs, etc. — that bring this 18-year-old into step with its more modern competitors. Even at that age, only three Princess ships are newer (Crown, Emerald, Ruby), which is probably Princess will welcome two new arrivals, one next year (Royal) and one in 2014.

Yes, you can be sure they’ll have both piazza and pizza.
