By the way, it could have happened to either one of us, because people in our demographic almost all require a pill or two.<\/p>\n<p>She had no responsible answer, of course. Nor did her husband, had he been asked.<\/p>\n<p>Usually in such circumstances, the border guard (or security officer at an airport or on a cruise ship) gives the &#8220;culprits&#8221; a light slap on the wrists and lets them go, and that&#8217;s exactly what happened in this case.<\/p>\n<p>However, they aren&#8217;t compelled to do that.<\/p>\n<p>They can confiscate the medication, and how troubling would that be? Several years ago, one of our friends went on a Panama Canal cruise, with a heart condition that was managed by medication. His medicine wasn&#8217;t confiscated but it was stolen, when he made the mistake of leaving it in a bag that disappeared before he boarded the ship. Convincing medical personnel what the medication was, how much he required and how urgently he needed it bordered on a nightmare at sea. Yes, he did get medication\u2026by helicopter.<\/p>\n<p>The point is, when you carry medication onto a cruise ship, make sure you have the prescription with you if it&#8217;s not in the right container.
