Meanwhile, this week Phil is willing to share his point-by-point  assessment of the four ships with our readers<\/em><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Today: Holland America&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollandamerica.com\/cruise-vacation-onboard\/NieuwAmsterdam\">Nieuw Amsterdam<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-6976\" href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/2011\/02\/new-ship-holland-america-nieuw-amsterdam\/nieuw-amsterdam-625\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6976\" title=\"Nieuw Amsterdam-625\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Nieuw-Amsterdam-625.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" \/><\/a>Brand of ship:<\/strong> Traditional.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Number of passengers:<\/strong> 2,104.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s unique:<\/strong> The chandelier in the Atrium is an upside-down version of the city.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My favorite spot:<\/strong> The bow on deck 11, with the Explorations Caf\u00e9 and its specialty coffees and pastries (the coffees cost), the Internet room and the Crow&#8217;s Nest, a room that can hold a large crowd but with a sweeping view of what&#8217;s ahead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My second-favorite spot:<\/strong> The Sea View Pool area on the stern off the Lido. It\u2019s also a good place to sit and talk, either under cover or out in the open.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best people-watching place:<\/strong> The Ocean Bar in the Atrium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If money is no object:<\/strong> Cabanas that overlook the pool ($45, or $75 at sea) and a corner one overlooking the ocean and the pool ($115).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strangest sight:<\/strong> Why do people stand and wait for the dining room to open when they have assigned seating?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conclusion:<\/strong> There&#8217;s not much difference between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollandamerica.com\/cruise-vacation-onboard\/Eurodam\">Eurodam<\/a> and Nieuw Amsterdam. Colors have more earthy tones. More artwork related to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/portal\/site\/nycgov\/?front_door=true\">New York<\/a> like the chandelier in the Atrium. A few minor changes such as eliminating the bar in the guest services area, which won&#8217;t be missed. The public areas for the most part are large on this ship.
