The year isn’t even two months old and already our colleague Phil Reimer of Ports and Bows<\/a> has been on four cruise ships, but we’re planning to catch up. Meanwhile, this week Phil is willing to share his point-by-point assessment of the four ships with our readers<\/em>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Today: Disney’s Dream<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Brand of ship:<\/strong> Family (also show business).<\/p>\n

Number of passengers:<\/strong> 4,000.<\/p>\n

Star of Christening Ceremony:<\/strong> Not Mickey, not Minnie, not Goofy\u2026but Jennifer Hudson<\/a>, who sang for Disney before she was ‘Jennifer Hudson’ and who as the star \"\"<\/a>of Dream Girls punctuated the event by singing Who Knows Where a Dream Might Lead?<\/p>\n

What’s Unique:<\/strong> The AquaDuck, an acrylic-tubed water coaster that goes around the top deck of the ship, and it’s fun.<\/p>\n

For kids:<\/strong> Everything.<\/p>\n

Adult escape:<\/strong> The Cove, an outdoor area with lounges and bars.<\/p>\n

State rooms:<\/strong> A little cramped for a family of four, but who stays in the room on a Disney<\/a> ship?<\/p>\n

Best entertainment:<\/strong> Walt Disney Theater, with Broadway shows.<\/p>\n

Entertainment surprise:<\/strong> A 300-seat movie theater that’s better than most on land.<\/p>\n

Food:<\/strong> You rotate through three restaurants with the same staff and dining partners.<\/p>\n

Upscale food:<\/strong> Two specialty restaurants and one of them, Remo’s, costs $75 (ouch).<\/p>\n

What’s different:<\/strong> The ship quality because, unlike Disney’s other ships, this one was built in Germany by Meyer Werft<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Conclusion:<\/strong> It’s like Disney\u2019s theme parks<\/a>, where you often see childless couples out enjoying themselves. However, it\u2019s a lot more fun for adults, be they uncles and aunts or grandparents, when you have the kids along.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
