There are parties, and confetti, and dignitaries, and broken champagne bottles, and toasts.<\/p>\n<p>What about cruise ship terminals?<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandiego.gov\/\">San Diego<\/a> is the inaugural arrival for a new terminal that was officially opened on the weekend. It&#8217;s called the Port Pavilion, 52,000 square feet of space and modern architecture that will speed up the embarkation and disembarkation process\u2026as long as there is a process to speed up.<\/p>\n<p>Up to 2,600 passengers will disembark in less than 30 minutes, officials say.<\/p>\n<p>When <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollandamerica.com\">Holland America&#8217;s<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollandamerica.com\/cruise-vacation-onboard\/Rotterdam\">Rotterdam<\/a> arrives tomorrow, it&#8217;s the beginning of what city officials hope will be a resurgence of cruise-ship activity that is going to take time. The <a rel=\"attachment wp-att-5545\" href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/2010\/12\/a-reason-to-celebrate-in-san-diego\/ms-rotterdam-at-sea-2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5545\" title=\"ms Rotterdam at Sea\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Rotterdam-6201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a>new Broadway Pier terminal is a response to cruise lines and passengers who complained about San Diego&#8217;s B Street Pier, and it comes amid projections that cruise-ship visitors in 2011 will be half what they were this year.<\/p>\n<p>So it&#8217;s for futures.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, the $28 million <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portofsandiego.org\/broadway-cruise-ship-terminal.html\">Port Pavilion<\/a> will be available for special events, such as wedding receptions\u2026and inaugural cruise-ship arrivals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Much is made of the inaugural voyages by cruise ships, anywhere and everywhere in the world.
