\"\"<\/a>On Friday, we’ll board Celebrity’s Millennium<\/a>, a ship we’ve never seen, in Puerto Rico, and the first stop this weekend in a country we’ve never been to, Colombia. This was a last-minute, somewhat-impulsive buy on my part\u2026and fortunately I have a willing partner.
\nI was just looking for a deal, and I found it at Cruises Only<\/a>. A 14-day cruise through the Panama Canal, which by itself takes something like 14 hours, for $679. Even someone with my math skills knows that’s less than $50 per night per person.
\nThis was a special, with different rates for different states, and even then I didn’t jump at it. I was busy asking Aimee the cruise consultant, as they like to be called, questions about everything from the style of dining to the types of shore excursions.
\n“Uh, could I put you on hold for a minute?” asked Aimee.
\n“Sure,” I said, even though that’s always a source of irritation because when is ‘a minute’ ever a minute?.
\n“I just want to check on something,” she said. “I want to put a hold on it, then we can talk as long as you want.”
\nIn a minute, true to her promise, Aimee was back.
\n“Okay, that’s better,” she said. “There was only one of these left, and I didn’t want you to lose it.”
\nThe good thing is, thanks to Aimee’s alert move, we’re traveling to San Juan today. We took the “guarantee” option, so we’re guaranteed an ocean-view state room, with the possibility of an upgrade.
\nThe bad news? I just got the word \u2014 we’re on deck 2, or perhaps looking out at an ocean aquarium.
\n“You’re going to love that stateroom,” said Aimee. “It’s a great view, close to the elevator but not too close, and not far from the middle of the ship.”
\nCheck back later to see. Either way, for less than $50 a day, who can complain?
