We’ve always found the congestion in south Florida to be problematic, but never moreso than after we landed here from Houston, to embark of a 5-day cruise aboard the Navigator of the Seas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Our flight landed in Miami. That was the first issue. Royal Caribbean’s<\/a> pier is in Fort Lauderdale<\/a>. That’s about 28 miles \u2014 as the crow flies. Since we’re not crows, it takes a little longer. In truth, it took as that long to get out of the car rental facility at Miami<\/a> International…after we got in the car.<\/p>\n

That was the second issue. The car was a convertible \u2014 we didn’t ask for one, but hey, isn’t it always warm enough for a convertible in Miami (it is on CSI Miami)? As we drove away from the airport, we noticed the car had clearly been driven by a smoker. Not a big deal. It happens. Then we noticed the seat-belt light wouldn’t go off. That was okay, except that it meant the seat-belt light beeper wouldn’t either.<\/p>\n

Have you ever listened to a seat belt beep for two days?<\/p>\n

Back to get another car. Not so fast. The airport streets are ripped apart, during construction of a train that will make rental car buses obsolete. After driving through mega detours, we wound up on the road to Fort Lauderdale, and decided to listen to the seat-belt beep for two days.<\/p>\n

The 28-mile trip, even though it was late at night, included an uncommon amount of traffic, for us. It didn’t take 28 minutes, as it probably should have, but it wasn’t much longer.<\/p>\n
