\"\"<\/a>It was three years ago, in Las Vegas. We’d bought discount tickets to see George Strait<\/a> at the MGM Grand<\/a>, because we’d never seen him before and everybody should. Opening for Straight was Ronnie Milsap<\/a>, an old country crooner known for overcoming blindness whom we’d also never seen \u2014 and were glad that we did.<\/p>\n

Opening for both of them was…Taylor Swift<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She was just 17, as The Beatles used to sing, and she was good. Very good. This was still some time before she became Taylor Swift, super star singer\/songwriter who now bridges the generations like she’s a musical Golden Gate \u2014 from us to our 10-year-old grandson. Besides her vocal ability and stage presence, and perkiness, what also struck us was that she’d written a few songs herself.<\/p>\n

Like 250 of them. Yes, at 17.<\/p>\n

Today she is known around the world, and on January 21 that world will include Cozumel<\/a>, Mexico, in a personal way. She’ll be performing on the deck of Allure of the Seas<\/a>, the biggest cruise ship in the world (status it shares with the Oasis<\/a>), in the AquaTheater…and the noise you hear is fans scrambling to buy tickets.<\/p>\n

For the cruise, that is.<\/p>\n

This is kind of a private concert Taylor is flying in to give, exclusively for passengers on the Allure. They may be hanging from the balconies and suites around the theater, but passage on the 7-day Western Caribbean cruise should mean a chance to see the show…from somewhere.<\/p>\n

Tickets for show seats can be won onboard, in some cases for being talented (karaoke) and in some for being lucky (entering a draw). It helps if you look like Taylor Swift, and how many young women out there already wish they did? Whoever does on the ship will see her show as the winner of a look-alike contest.<\/p>\n

Royal Caribbean’s<\/a> marketing people are calling it The Allure of Taylor Swift <\/em>and who can blame them? It was announced a few days ago but today seemed the right time to address it here. Today is the day her new CD is released. It’s called Speak Now<\/em> and once sales begin she’ll be on her way to 14 million CDs sold, because she passed 13 with the first two releases.<\/p>\n
