Like most people, we enjoyed his legal thrillers most but, when he deviated from his formula and wrote Skipping Christmas (which later became a movie), we liked that, too. So when we heard about the opportunity for cruisers to &#8220;skip Christmas&#8221; by going on a ship, it became a natural way for us to introduce the subject.<\/p>\n<p>All the cruise lines have holiday itineraries at that time of year, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalcaribbean.com\/home.do\">Royal Caribbean&#8217;s<\/a> looks a little different than anything we&#8217;ve seen. Not only does it have holiday cruises \u2014 it&#8217;s politically incorrect to call them Christmas cruises even though that&#8217;s what they are \u2014 departing from eight U.S. ports (check <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalcaribbean.com\/findacruise\/search\/vacationSearchResult.do;jsessionid=0000y0__DSu4E75U38w7uj-Pwv7:12hbiocak?date=201011&amp;dest=CARIB&amp;duration=&amp;port=ANY&amp;portOfCall=&amp;location=&amp;price=&amp;promoType=&amp;ship=ANY&amp;jacOnly=false&amp;cruiseTourOnly=false&amp;hasSenior=&amp;hasMilitary=&amp;hasFireandPolice=&amp;state=&amp;includeAdjascentPorts=Y&amp;sortBy=3\">here<\/a> to find a list), but all its ships will be, err\u2026decked out&#8230;with decorations.<\/p>\n<p>A Catholic priest will say mass at midnight, a rabbi will do what rabbis do for Hanukkah, holiday movies will be shown in the theaters, crew members will sing carols, and passengers can decorate cookies, watch holiday skate shows or send kids for special programs.<\/p>\n<p>So really, it&#8217;s not &#8220;skipping Christmas&#8221;\u2026it&#8217;s just celebrating it in an unusual way.<br \/>\n* * *<br \/>\nIt seems cruise passengers like being organized. In response to consumers inquiries (or demands), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celebritycruises.com\/home.do\">Celebrity<\/a> now makes it possible to book just about everything before boarding its ships. The latest additions to the list are spa, salon and personal fitness appointments.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3024\" href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/2010\/08\/theme-cruises-christmas-phil-reimer\/eclipse-293\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3024\" title=\"Eclipse-293\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Eclipse-293.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"293\" height=\"156\" \/><\/a>The process is gradually being rolled out over the Celebrity fleet. Last week, it was available on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celebritycruises.com\/plancruise\/ships\/ship.do;jsessionid=0000whxAuwbZ6DPnXJHW_oCH5Sm:12hdebcnj?shipCode=SL&amp;cS=SIDENAV\">Solstice<\/a>. This week, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celebritycruises.com\/plancruise\/ships\/ship.do;jsessionid=0000whxAuwbZ6DPnXJHW_oCH5Sm:12hdebcnj?shipCode=EC&amp;cS=SIDENAV\">Eclipse<\/a> (right). Next week, appointments can be booked on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celebritycruises.com\/plancruise\/ships\/ship.do;jsessionid=0000whxAuwbZ6DPnXJHW_oCH5Sm:12hdebcnj?shipCode=EQ&amp;cS=SIDENAV\">Equinox<\/a> sailings. And next year, naturally, the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celebritycruises.com\/plancruise\/ships\/ship.do;jsessionid=0000xc8ln2MsN3mduMtil8N3RVH:12hdebcnj?shipCode=SI\">Silhouette<\/a>.
