The ship \u2014 Genting Dream \u2014 is the first of two ships for a new cruise line, Dream Cruises, which is owned by Genting Hong Kong, which also owns <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crystalcruises.com\/\">Crystal Cruises<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.starcruises.com\/\">Star Cruises<\/a> and 28 per cent of <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.ncl.com\/\">Norwegian<\/a>, which owns <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceaniacruises.com\/default.aspx\">Oceania<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rssc.com\/\">Regent Seven Seas<\/a>. Translation: It\u2019s big. It\u2019s also big because a ship of this size \u2014 somewhere north of 3,400 passengers \u2014 is competition for all the mainstream lines that are hustling ships off to Asia.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Launch date:<\/b> Late Autumn<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Capacity:<\/b> 3,400<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Sister ships:<\/b> Unnamed, to come in 2017<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Maiden voyage:<\/b> Unknown<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Home port: <\/b>Asia <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Ships then in Dream\u00a0Cruises fleet:<\/b> 1<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Interesting:<\/b> The most recent information from Star Cruises (that&#8217;s the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.starcruises.com\/en\/home\/ships\/star-pisces\/introduction.aspx\">Star Pisces<\/a> in picture) is that this first ship for Dream Cruises will have the highest crew-to-guest ratio (2,000-to-3,400) of any Asia Pacific ship. What\u2019s more intriguing is that it will have two submersibles to take passengers 20,000 leagues under the sea\u2026okay, on an underwater adventure \u201cto discover the treasures of the ocean,\u201d four passengers at a time. The ship will also serve as a bridge, between Genting\u2019s luxury brand (Crystal) and its mass-market brand (Star), a category that the parent company calls \u201cpremium.\u201d The Genting Dream and the sister ship that&#8217;s expected to follow late next year are being positioned as \u201cmega ships\u201d and there are reports the second one will carry 4,500 passengers.
