It&rsquo;s a place we visited while on a 19-day cruise from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sanfrancisco.com\/\">San Francisco<\/a> to South America, on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.ncl.com\/ship\/sun\/overview\">Norwegian Sun<\/a>. We booked a private, eight-hour tour to give us the best chance of seeing a place new to us but our tour guide had a specific (and rigid) agenda and when it ended, we&rsquo;d missed out on something we enjoy most &mdash; meeting the locals&hellip;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"font-size: 13.3333339691162px; line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Found-city-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Found city-1\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23645\" height=\"488\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Found-city-1.jpg\" width=\"650\" \/><\/a><span class=\"s1\" style=\"line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\"><b><i>This &ldquo;found city&rdquo; is called&nbsp;<\/i><\/b><\/span><b style=\"line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\"><i>Huaca Pucllana, 40 acres of adobe ruins abandoned in 700 AD and discovered by accident about 50 years ago. Until then, it was just &ldquo;a hill in the city&rdquo; and Peruvians have been meticulously uncovering it since 1981 and are nowhere near finished<\/i><\/b><b><i>.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"font-size: 13.3333339691162px; line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Edith.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Edith\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23644\" height=\"638\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Edith.jpg\" width=\"650\" \/><\/a><b style=\"font-size: 13.3333339691162px; line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\"><i>This is Edith (we only knew her first name), the daughter of a doctor in Pasco, and well-educated herself because her family could afford to send her to &ldquo;American&rdquo; school. She spoke excellent English and talked a lot, which was fine, and clearly knew her history<\/i><\/b><b><i>.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"font-size: 13.3333339691162px; line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Cross.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Cross\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23643\" height=\"808\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Cross.jpg\" width=\"650\" \/><\/a><b style=\"font-size: 13.3333339691162px; line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\"><i>At the San Francisco Monastery, there is a lot of interesting religious artifacts, including a large display of crosses, most with the symbolic aspects of the events of Good Friday<\/i><\/b><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 13.3333339691162px; line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\"><b><i>. By day&rsquo;s end, we&rsquo;d had our fill of Peruvian religion and artifacts<\/i><\/b><\/span><b><i>.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"font-size: 13.3333339691162px; line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Make-love.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Make love\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23646\" height=\"705\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Make-love.jpg\" width=\"650\" \/><\/a><b><i>Google &ldquo;statues in Lima&rdquo; and you&rsquo;ll find many different angles of this one, the most popular if not the most famous artistic attraction on the waterfront. You&rsquo;ll find some of two tourists in the foreground, trying to mirror this pose. No, we didn&rsquo;t try it.<\/i><\/b><em style=\"font-size: 12.222222328186px; line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\"><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"font-size: 13.3333339691162px; line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Poor-Peru.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Poor Peru\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23647\" height=\"786\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Poor-Peru.jpg\" width=\"650\" \/><\/a><b><i>When we asked Edith about this hillside settlement, she didn&rsquo;t want to talk about it and tried to move us along quickly to the next stop. You see, this is where the poor live in Lima, the colors are their badge of poverty.
