{"id":23549,"date":"2015-03-18T01:00:46","date_gmt":"2015-03-18T08:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/?p=23549"},"modified":"2015-03-18T01:00:46","modified_gmt":"2015-03-18T08:00:46","slug":"thursday-18th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vitaluna.net\/?p=23549","title":{"rendered":"More ships, voyages for Windstar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.windstarcruises.com\/\">Windstar<\/a>, the yacht-style cruise line that has grown from bankruptcy four years ago to a fleet of six ships by summer, has unveiled its collection of voyages for 2016&hellip;There are 11 new ones and 30 new ports that Windstar ships will visit, all of it made possible by the addition of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.windstarcruises.com\/starbreeze-yacht.aspx\">Star Breeze<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.windstarcruises.com\/starlegend-yacht.aspx\">Star Legend<\/a> this spring, following appropriate <a href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Star-Pride.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Star Pride\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23700\" height=\"221\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Star-Pride.jpg\" width=\"650\" \/><\/a>refurbishment&hellip;Until they go into drydock, the ships will continue sailing as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seabourn.com\/luxury-cruise-vacation-onboard\/Spirit\">Seabourn Spirit <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seabourn.com\/YourYachts\/Legend\/\">Seabourn Legend<\/a>&hellip;Then they&rsquo;ll join another former <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seabourn.com\/\">Seabourn<\/a> ship, now Windstar&rsquo;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.windstarcruises.com\/starpride-yacht.aspx\">Star Pride<\/a>&nbsp;(above),&nbsp;which has been flying under the new cruise flag for almost a year&hellip;The most intriguing of the new itineraries is a circumnavigation of Iceland on the Star Legend, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitreykjavik.is\/\">Reykjavik<\/a> to Reykjavik in seven days at the beginning of July (least amount of ice?)&hellip;The fare is currently listed at $3,399 per person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Richard-Branson1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Richard Branson\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-23706\" height=\"212\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Richard-Branson1.jpg\" width=\"150\" \/><\/a>When our colleague <a href=\"http:\/\/o.canada.com\/discussions\/ports-and-bows\/\">Phil Reimer<\/a> was writing about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virgin.com\/richard-branson\">Richard Branson<\/a> and his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virginholidayscruises.co.uk\/\">Virgin Cruises<\/a> of the future last week, another layer of the story was unfolding&hellip;Colin Veitch, the former <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.ncl.com\/\">Norwegian<\/a> executive whom Branson recruited to be a founding partner, is suing the magnetic entrepreneur because he claims he could&rsquo;ve made $315 million before Branson dumped him&hellip;The suit is based on Veitch&rsquo;s contention that it was his financing plan Branson used to start the new venture, which will apparently start with a pair of 4,200-passenger ships designed to attract young travelers&hellip;The question about the concept is this: Are there enough &ldquo;young travelers&rdquo; with enough vacation time to keep two big ships full year-round.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The folks who live and work around the cruise ship terminal in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortlauderdale.gov\/\">Fort Lauderdale<\/a> have been used to seeing the twin towers of cruising, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oasisoftheseas.com\">Oasis of the Seas<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allureoftheseas.com\">Allure of the Seas<\/a>, coming and going on alternating weeks&hellip;Oasis is moving to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portcanaveral.com\/cruising\/cruising.php\">Port Canaveral<\/a> next year, following the cruise line&rsquo;s investment in a new terminal that opened in December&hellip;It will be replaced in Fort Lauderdale by Harmony of the Seas, the third <a href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Oasis-Labadee.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Oasis - Labadee\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23702\" height=\"399\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Oasis-Labadee.jpg\" width=\"650\" \/><\/a><i>Oasis Class<\/i> ship that will arrive next fall, so maybe the people who live and work around the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.porteverglades.org\/\">Port Everglades<\/a> terminal won&rsquo;t even notice that Oasis is gone &mdash; unless they read the bold type on the side of the ship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">On the theory that there&rsquo;s strength in numbers, seven Indian Ocean islands are sending representatives to wherever cruise executives gather to generate business for their ports&hellip;The seven include the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seychelles.travel\/en\/home\/index.php\">Seychelles<\/a>, Madagascar, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mauritius.net\/index.php\">Mauritius<\/a>, Maldives and three most of us have never heard of, let alone visited&hellip;This month, they were at a tourism trade fair in Germany and managed to convince <a href=\"http:\/\/www.costacruise.com\/\">Costa Cruises<\/a> to consider having more of a presence in the islands, which its ships visit, and to give residents a chance to board ships for round-the-islands cruises&hellip;The islanders are offering pre- and post-cruise shore excursions that include an African safari&hellip;Geography is perhaps the biggest problem &mdash;
