\"\"<\/a>Listening to our seven-year-old granddaughter, Naomi, the other day, I heard her say she was “wicked scared” about watching a spooky movie. The word “wicked” has taken on new meanings since I first used it, just a few years ago.<\/p>\n

Even for me, it now describes not only something that’s “extremely” \u2026whatever, but also one of my favorite musical productions, playing at the Orpheum Theater<\/a> in San Francisco until early September.<\/p>\n

Which reminds me that I have been meaning to alert any fellow cruisers who like musicals, the kind that aren’t performed on the ships. I’ve left it long enough that my recommendation will only apply to Princess<\/a> cruisers, because those are the only major ships (the Sea Princess<\/a>) embarking or disembarking in San Francisco before Wicked<\/a> ends its run.<\/p>\n

Princess has a round-trip Alaskan itinerary from San Francisco in August and September. A day or two at either end of the cruise is the idea here.<\/p>\n

This musical is loosely based on the best-selling novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire and it tells the story of the witches in The Land of Oz \u2014 Elpheba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Galinda (or Glinda, as she becomes), the Good Witch of the North.<\/p>\n

Luckily, we found half-price tickets, but even at full price ($80) it is a wise entertainment investment. The one negative is the location of the theatre\u2026the area’s a bit rough, but that often seems to be the case for big-city theaters.
