News item: <\/i>Dancing With The Stars<\/i><\/a> will continue to be featured on Holland America ships through the 2015-16 cruise season.<\/i><\/p>\n

Well, there’s a surprise.<\/p>\n

ABC’s immensely popular TV series first sailed with Holland America<\/a> after the cruise line cleverly made a deal to launch “Dancing With The Stars: At Sea” in 2013. For two years now, the show at sea has been just like the show on land.<\/p>\n

A hit.<\/p>\n

The professional dancers from DTWS \u2014 Tristan MacManus, Kym Johnson<\/a>, Sharna Burgess<\/a>\u00a0(right),\u00a0\"Emma<\/a>Emma Slater<\/a>,\u00a0Lacey Schwimmer<\/a>, Chelsie Hightower<\/a>,\u00a0Derek Hough<\/a>\u00a0and Mark Ballas<\/a>\u00a0(left) \u2014 have \"Mark<\/a>performed on a number of select\u00a0theme cruises, culminating with a Champions Cruise<\/i> each year. The same, of course, will apply next year, with the grand finale set for January 10, 2016 on the Nieuw Amsterdam.<\/a><\/p>\n

There are six cruises on next year’s schedule: two in January, two in June and one prior to the Champions Cruise<\/i> the following January. Obviously, they have to be worked around TV tapings. Two are on the Westerdam<\/a> (Caribbean), two on the Veendam<\/a> (New England) and the final two on the Nieuw Amsterdam. Passengers have a chance to qualify for that\u00a0 all year on all 15 Holland America ships.<\/p>\n

Holland America is extending the deal with DWTS because, simply, it works.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn every cruise throughout the year our Dancing with the Stars: At Sea<\/i> lessons are a huge draw and the competition to dance for the Champions Cruise<\/i> is intense, which tells us we have a very successful and engaging program,\u201d said Executive Vice-President Richard Meadows.<\/p>\n

Cruise lines have found in recent years that entertainment on land \u2014 from concerts to Broadway shows to TV reality specials \u2014 are at least as popular on ships.<\/p>\n

Kind of makes you wonder why it took so long, doesn’t it?<\/p>\n
