{"id":20282,"date":"2014-03-20T01:00:09","date_gmt":"2014-03-20T08:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/?p=20282"},"modified":"2014-03-20T01:00:09","modified_gmt":"2014-03-20T08:00:09","slug":"thursday-86","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vitaluna.net\/?p=20282","title":{"rendered":"A Look Into Dry Dock\u2026And What Follows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Knowing how fascinated we are by all things cruising, a good friend yesterday sent us an email with an interesting link.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">If you&#39;ve never fully understood what happens when a ship goes into dry dock, stick around.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">The ship is the Norwegian Crown, or it was the Crown until it became the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fredolsencruises.com\/\">Fred.Olsen<\/a> Balmoral, seven years ago. It takes three minutes to watch that transformation&hellip;the process probably took about 7,000 times that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">There are two places you can find it, in one click &mdash; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liveleak.com\/ll_embed?f=4627a8984ac8\">liveleak<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ESl89ReTK2c\">YouTube<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">The story gets more interesting than the sale of a ship and what happens to it in dry dock. This was the second time the Norwegian Crown was so named. Originally the Crown Odyssey and operated by Royal Cruise Line, it was sold to <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.ncl.com\/\">Norwegian<\/a> in 1996 and was part of the fleet for four years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">Then it became Crown Odyssey again, this time for Orient Lines, which was purchased by Norwegian. That lasted three years, then it was back to Norwegian for another four years as the Norwegian Crown.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">Since 2007, it has remained what you saw in the video: the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fredolsencruises.com\/Our-Ships\/Balmoral\/Welcome-aboard-Balmoral,-the-largest-of-our-fleet\">Fred.Olsen Balmoral<\/a>. By today&#39;s cruise standards, it&#39;s on the small side, carrying just over 1,230&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Balmoral-500.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Balmoral-500\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20326\" height=\"142\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Balmoral-500.jpg\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">passengers, but it was the subject of much discussion two years ago next month.
