Rightly or wrongly, <\/span>Holland America<\/a> is often referred to as the cruise line for "older folks." This is a sensitive accusation, of course, because no cruise line wants to be exclusively for retirees and no retirees want to be labelled as passengers on floating seniors centers, as such ships could sarcastically be labelled.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So how do you explain Dancing With The Stars<\/i><\/a>?<\/span><\/p>\n

If this is a cruise line that caters to the, ah, pensioners than how many of them <\/span>\"Nieuw<\/a>would even have a clue about DWTS, as the product is known…almost as widely as it is known for being a TV phenomenon that caters to the young. Or younger.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dancing With The Stars<\/i> is less than 10 years old. A grade schooler in real life…a veteran in TV land, where it has survived 17 seasons (a season is not a year). The shows — or its stars — are featured on Holland America ships, climaxing 12 days into the New Year with the <\/i><\/b>Champions Cruise<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

That's when 15 winners from dance competitions on each of  the 15 Holland America ships will compete on the Nieuw Amsterdam<\/a> for the title of Dancing With The Stars: At Sea<\/i> champion. That will be the Caribbean Sea because that's where the Nieuw Amsterdam will be spending its seven days with celebrities. They'll be <\/span>\"Derek<\/a>from the real DWTS…Tristan McManus, Carson Kressley<\/a>, Kym Johnson<\/a>, Sabrina Bryan<\/a> and the latest  addition, Derek Hough.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who is Derek Hough<\/a>?<\/span><\/p>\n

He is a five-time DWTS champion and the older brother of Julianne Hough<\/a>, an early two-time winner. H'e also known as a choreographer, singer, musician, actor and producer…and the guy's only 28!<\/span><\/p>\n

That's right, young enough to be a grandson of the so-called "typical" Holland America passenger.<\/span><\/p>\n

Again, rightly or wrongly.<\/span><\/p>\n
