Three things you might not have heard from the cruise world…<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Star Clippers<\/a>, which has a fleet of three ships, offers passengers a look at \"\"<\/a>diametrically opposed worlds. Its flagship <\/span>Royal Clipper<\/a> regularly makes runs to and from <\/span>Cuba<\/a>, with either Panama or <\/span>St. Maarten<\/a> at the other end. Its <\/span>Star Flyer<\/a> next year will take passengers to <\/span>Monaco<\/a> for the Grand Prix (so Windstar's are not the only yachts going to the <\/span>Grand Prix<\/a> — see <\/span>yesterday's blog<\/a>). So, from the '57 Chevs of Cuba to the <\/span>Formula One<\/a> rockets of Monaco!<\/span><\/p>\n

2. The third annual National Cruise Vacation Week <\/i>(isn't every week a cruise vacation week?) has been declared as October 20-27 by the Cruise Lines International Association<\/a>, otherwise known as CLIA. What it really means is that there will be sales galore available that week because CLIA members (almost all cruise lines) and travel agents come up with special offers and packages. Think of it as a Black Friday that lasts seven days.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>3. Princess is staying longer in Houston. After committing to utilizing the new\/old Bayport Cruise Terminal<\/a> for a year (starting in November) when Houston<\/a> sweetened the pot, Princess<\/a> has signed a two-year extension that includes two one-year options. This guarantees 77 departures from Houston with an expected economic impact of $155 million. What is not known, at least not yet, is how much the Port of Houston Authority is paying the cruise line to be there.<\/p>\n
