By extension, to cynics it&#39;s making a bad joke of the entire industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">In case you haven&#39;t had your TV on or been reading the news, online or in print, the Dream had a mechanical malfunction while docked in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.st-maarten.com\/\">St. Maarten<\/a>. This was not a major <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/2013\/03\/friday-35\/dream-pr-xxx\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16792\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-16792\" height=\"198\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Dream-PR-xxx.jpg\" title=\"Carnival Dream, in the Caribbean\" width=\"350\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;\">malfunction but it did mean all passengers were being flown home from St. Maarten in the midst of what was supposed to be a one-week cruise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Last month, there was an engine-room fire on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/cms\/fun\/ships\/carnival_triumph\/default.aspx?shipCode=TI\">Carnival Triumph<\/a>, leaving the ship on the Gulf of Mexico for five days, some of it without facilities. Three years ago, a fire on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/cms\/fun\/ships\/carnival_splendor\/default.aspx?shipCode=SL\">Carnival Splendor<\/a> disabled it off the West Coast. In between those fires, there was the deadly Carnival-owned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.costacruise.com\/\">Costa<\/a> Concordia incident off the coast of Italy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Are you seeing the trend here?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">The detailed explanation of what happened on the Dream this week is available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/Core\/FAQ.aspx?faq=update\">Carnival&#39;s website<\/a>. Read through it and you&#39;ll find this was a fairly minor incident and that the cruise line exercised the ultimate caution. However, complaints from one passenger can distort the facts because one negative report in the media can be taken as being representative of the ship&#39;s 4,363 passengers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">It goes without saying that Carnival has a perception problem that is the result of four significant safety incidents inside of three years.
