{"id":16736,"date":"2013-03-12T01:07:48","date_gmt":"2013-03-12T08:07:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/?p=16736"},"modified":"2013-03-12T01:07:48","modified_gmt":"2013-03-12T08:07:48","slug":"tuesday-33","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vitaluna.net\/?p=16736","title":{"rendered":"Celebrity Meets Specialty Demand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">When the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celebritycruises.com\/explore\/ships\/detail.do?shipCode=RF\">Celebrity Reflection<\/a> was introduced to North America in December, we heard a comment on the ship from the new boss, Michael Bayley, after he&#39;d experienced the specialty restaurant known as <em>Qsine<\/em>. His comment had to do with the fee ($40) for dining at <em>Qsine<\/em>?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&quot;Is that all we charge?&quot; he asked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It should have been the tipoff, that it was only a matter of time until <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celebritycruises.com\">Celebrity<\/a> raised its cover charge for <em>Qsine<\/em>? That, plus the fact Bayley and his executives made it clear to <a href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/2013\/03\/tuesday-33\/qs-special-dish\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16767\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-16767\" height=\"441\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/QS-special-dish.jpg\" title=\"One of Qsine's special dishes\" width=\"300\" \/><\/a>travel agents on the Reflection that Celebrity was moving to become more upscale than it already was&#8230;the catch-phrase was &quot;modern luxury.&quot;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As of this month, it costs $45 to eat at <em>Qsine<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">And $35 at the <em>Tuscan Grille<\/em> (Italian), $45 at <em>Murano<\/em> (French) and $30 at <em>Silk Harvest<\/em> (Asian), all of them an increase of $5 per person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Celebrity explained to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cruisecritic.com\/\">Cruise Critic<\/a> that the increases were &quot;due to increased demand during peak dining times.&quot;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In other words, supply and demand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">For passengers who have paid to eat at these specialty restaurants, the question will be: &quot;Does another five dollars make it too much?&quot;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The answer is: The market will decide. If there&#39;s no demand at the new prices, the market will fall and Celebrity may reconsider. Passengers who are now complaining about the increases aren&#39;t forced to go. If they don&#39;t like it, take a pass.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">For passengers who haven&#39;t eaten at these (or other speciality restaurants on cruise ships), the question is always: &quot;Are they worth a cover charge when you can eat at the dining room?&quot;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The answer is: This is always subjective. Obviously Mr. Bayley felt $40 made <em>Qsine<\/em> a good deal for diners. We have eaten at Qsine. We paid $40.
