{"id":14222,"date":"2012-08-28T01:08:18","date_gmt":"2012-08-28T08:08:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/?p=14222"},"modified":"2012-08-28T01:08:18","modified_gmt":"2012-08-28T08:08:18","slug":"tuesday-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vitaluna.net\/?p=14222","title":{"rendered":"Cruise Effect of Hurricane Isaac"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The swath that Hurricane Isaac is cutting through the waters of the Gulf of Mexico won&#39;t be hitting any cruise ships, but it has already affected some ship itineraries&#8230;with more to come.<\/p>\n<p>When the storm hits <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neworleansonline.com\/\">New Orleans<\/a> today, whatever damage is left behind could affect two <a href=\"http:\/\/http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/\">Carnival<\/a> ships, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/cms\/fun\/ships\/carnival_conquest\/default.aspx?shipCode=CQ\">Conquest<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/cms\/fun\/ships\/carnival_elation\/default.aspx?shipCode=EL\">Elation<\/a>. The latter is supposed to be returning on Thursday to drop off passengers who have been in the Western Caribbean and pick up a new load before leaving that evening. The Conquest isn&#39;t due back until Saturday from an Eastern Caribbean cruise.<\/p>\n<p>The other two ships that home-port in New Orleans, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.ncl.com\/\">Norwegian<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.ncl.com\/ship\/star\/overview\">Star<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalcaribbean.com\/home.do\">Royal Caribbean&#39;s<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalcaribbean.com\/findacruise\/ships\/class\/ship\/home.do;jsessionid=0000qNZMYvzM70BFt-cLBOv1KIR:12hbioan0?br=R&amp;shipClassCode=VY&amp;shipCode=NV\">Navigator of the Seas<\/a>, won&#39;t be there until November.<\/p>\n<p>As for damage done &mdash; minor for cruisers considering the big picture&nbsp; &mdash; Tropical Storm Isaac forced the Port of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.miami.com\/\">Miami<\/a> to be closed on the weekend, leaving four ships at sea longer than planned: Norwegian&#39;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.ncl.com\/cruise-ship\/sky\/overview\">Sky<\/a>, Royal Caribbean&#39;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalcaribbean.com\/findacruise\/ships\/class\/ship\/home.do?shipClassCode=SS&amp;shipCode=MJ&amp;br=R\">Majesty of the Seas<\/a> and Carnival&#39;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/cms\/fun\/ships\/carnival_imagination\/default.aspx?shipCode=IM\">Imagination<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/cms\/fun\/ships\/carnival_valor\/default.aspx?shipCode=VA\">Valor<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allureoftheseas.com\">Allure of the Seas<\/a> was also two days late getting back to <a href=\"http:\/\/ci.ftlaud.fl.us\/\">Fort Lauderdale<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All five ships are on shorter cruises this week as a result, and three of them had to change itineraries.<\/p>\n<p>As you probably know, the risk of seeing a cruise ship caught in a hurricane is minute, because the weather systems are monitored closely and because cruise ships travel faster than hurricanes.<\/p>\n<p>Considering what the poor folks of the Gulf Coast (and other places) face, hurricanes like Isaac are not much more than a nuisance to people on cruise ships.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12028\" height=\"125\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DailyDeal-2-e1334202169354.jpg\" title=\"DailyDeal-2\" width=\"300\" \/><br \/>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollandamerica.com\/cruise-vacation-onboard\/Eurodam\">Holland America Eurodam<\/a><br \/>\n\t7 nights<br \/>\n\tNovember 24, 2012<br \/>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/ci.ftlaud.fl.us\/\">Fort Lauderdale<\/a> (return): <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grandturkcc.com\/\">Grand Turk<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.topuertorico.org\/city\/sanjuan.shtml\">San Juan<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/st-thomas.com\/\">St. Thomas<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caribbeanportreviews.com\/HalfMoonCay.htm\">Half Moon Cay<\/a><br \/>\n\tInside: $499<br \/>\n\t<span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><strong>Cost per day: $71<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollandamerica.com\/main\/Main.action\">www.hollandamerica.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The swath that Hurricane Isaac is cutting through the waters of the Gulf of Mexico won&#39;t be hitting any cruise ships, but it has already affected some ship itineraries&#8230;with more to come.
