{"id":10608,"date":"2011-12-22T01:57:05","date_gmt":"2011-12-22T09:57:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/?p=10608"},"modified":"2011-12-22T01:57:05","modified_gmt":"2011-12-22T09:57:05","slug":"florida-space-coast-ecsta-tic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vitaluna.net\/?p=10608","title":{"rendered":"Florida Space Coast &#039;Ecsta&#8230;tic&#039;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every once in a while, it&#8217;s worth re-visiting what it means to a port when a cruise line decides to use it as a home port.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-10615\" href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/2011\/12\/florida-space-coast-ecsta-tic\/ecstasy-1-450\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-10615\" title=\"Ecstasy-1-450\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Ecstasy-1-450-e1324572081308.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>The latest example is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/\">Carnival<\/a>, Port Canaveral and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/cms\/fun\/ships\/carnival_ecstasy\/default.aspx?shipCode=EC\">Ecstasy. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>When the world&#8217;s largest cruise line \u2014 now 23 ships strong \u2014 sent the Ecstasy to Florida, it gave Carnival three ships operating out of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portcanaveral.com\/cruising\/cruising.php\">Port Canaveral.<\/a> In joining the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/cms\/fun\/ships\/carnival_dream\/default.aspx?shipCode=DR\">Dream<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/cms\/fun\/ships\/carnival_sensation\/default.aspx?shipCode=SE\">Sensation<\/a>, the Ecstasy adds an annual economic impact of $50 million to the area.<\/p>\n<p>You could say this is a case of &#8220;when one door closes, another one opens.&#8221; Earlier this year, the end of the space shuttle program destroyed a chunk of the tourist industry on what they call the &#8220;Space Coast.&#8221; It&#8217;s probably a stretch to say the Ecstasy will replenish that, but it might.<\/p>\n<p>After all, while there are no shuttle launches to watch, the Kennedy Space Center \u2014 a tourist attraction on its own \u2014 is there all the time.
