Nobody even showed up until Irene, and that was the third week of August. She was a Category 3, but nobody paid her <a rel=\"attachment wp-att-10117\" href=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/2011\/10\/rina-and-friends-just-as-expected\/hurricane-rina-316-2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-10117\" title=\"Hurricane Rina-316\" src=\"http:\/\/cruisingdoneright.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Hurricane-Rina-3161.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"316\" height=\"222\" \/><\/a>much attention because she didn&#8217;t cause much disruption, nor damage.<\/p>\n<p>The arrival of Rina, which hasn&#8217;t reached Cat 3 status, caught everyone&#8217;s attention in the cruise business. As she peaked at Cat 2 while for the Yucatan Peninsula in the Gulf of Mexico, a dozen ships changed direction, eight of them <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/\">Carnival<\/a>, and popular ports like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.belize.com\/belize-city.html\">Belize<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.islacozumel.com.mx\/\">Cozumel<\/a> welcomed fewer visitors.<\/p>\n<p>When the threat of hurricanes all began (June 1), predictions from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/\">NOAA<\/a> (National Hurricane Center) were that there would be six to 10 hurricanes, three to six of them Cat 3 or higher. This was considered an &#8220;above-normal&#8221; prognosis.<\/p>\n<p>Guess what?<\/p>\n<p>With a month to go, there have been six hurricanes, three of them Cat 3 or higher \u2014 Irene, Katia, Ophelia.
